Synopsis
Parents of Five - To Twelve Year Olds: You have a "Window of Opportunity" to really affect your child's values and decisions
The school-age years are the prime time for positive learning experiences; they are also a time of temptations, peer pressure, and sometimes risky experimentation. Now Koch and Freedman help parents make the most of these critical years, with straightforward guidance and reassurance.
Review:
This book is based on the "Families in Touch Project," which distributes a series of booklets to schools and community organizations. It is full of extremely useful information for parents of children ages five and up. It covers a wide range of topics, from self-esteem to drug use and early sexual activity. The chapters on informing children about puberty and sex, and how parents may help them adjust to divorce or death are exceptionally well done. Each chapter also has a list of resources to contact for more information. This book will be useful to parents who wish to head off problems before they begin, or those parents who have difficulty talking to their children about sex. Highly recommended.
