Synopsis

The Effective Governor is an interactive, DVD-based school development course, which comes complete with Individual Learning Guides for course participants to record their progress and Facilitation Notes to help with delivery of the course. It incorporates specific tools for stimulating creative thinking and practical problem solving.

Module 1 is designed as a recruitment tool that spells out the benefits and rewards of being a school governor, emphasising personal satisfactions and the impact of the role on the future of the pupils at the school.

Module 2 is a comprehensive induction package for individual governors to find their feet and develop confidence quickly and thoroughly, helping people see their way through the maze of information available to governors and become effective as soon as possible.

Module 3 encourages team building, allowing the governors to examine some typical real world scenarios (dramatised) and come up with solutions together, stressing the need for assertive behaviour and creative thinking. Expert feedback is given on each scenario by Sir Geoff Hampton, Director, Midlands Leadership Centre.

Module 4 sets out the requirements of Ofsted and helps the governors understand what it is they need to achieve (and prove that they have achieved) when the school is inspected, providing a number of tools to help them clarify and resolve issues.

Designed to improve the governance and hence the performance of your school, the DVD course key features are:

? A powerful tool for recruiting and inducting new governors
    ? Thorough preparation for inspection
? Cost effective, flexible and easy to use in-school training – no need to attend an external course
? Generic materials that can be tailored to suit your school
? A motivational methodology that will inspire confidence, pro-activity and belief.

"This is the most useful and stimulating training for governors that I've seen."
Mark Owen, Deputy Chair of Governors
