Synopsis

This special collection brings together the first two volumes of Lee Kuan Yew's memoirs -- written by Lee himself

One of the pivotal figures in the modern history of Southeast Asia, Mr Lee Kuan Yew passed away on 23 March 2015. This special collection brings together the two volumes of his memoirs: The Singapore Story and From Third World to First, that he wrote in his own inimitable style. They are an invaluable account of the history of Singapore and the region.

In The Singapore Story, Lee recounts in intimate detail the battles against colonialists, communists and communalists that led to Singapore’s independence.

From Third World to First details the extraordinary efforts it took for an island city-state in Southeast Asia to survive, with just a “razor’s edge” to manoeuvre in, as Albert Winsemius, Singapore’s economic advisor in the 1960s,
put it.

About The Author:

He stepped down as PM in 1990 and assumed the post of Senior Minister for 14 years. In 2004, he became Minister Mentor, a post he relinquished in May 2011. He passed away on 23 March 2015.
